Rolex Explorer Ref. 6150

Ref. 6150: An iconic early Explorer from the golden age of Rolex. Manufactured shortly after Tenzing and Hillary's successful ascent to the top of Everest, this 6150 is a reminder of the age of Exploration and the golden age of Rolex tool watches. Most ref. 6150s feature "Precision" printed on the dial instead of "Explorer", making this example in particular, a rare and coveted piece.

CASE

Case has thick lugs and exhibits only superficial wear on all surfaces. The bezel is still sharp and retains a crisp edge.

DIAL

Original gilt dial shows signs of light wear including a small blemish near the center of the dial. With a loupe it appears to be debris on the dial, but we have made no attempt to remove or "improve" it. Luminous is slightly abraided on a couple of the indexes, but the watch presents beautifully. Dial and hands are radium and the watch reacts strongly to a Geiger counter.

BRACELET

Watch comes on a very unusual and early oyster rivet band with a clasp that is stamped "WAB Rolex". WAB stands for Watch Accessories Birmingham, a contract manufacture used by Rolex in the early days. The band is in excellent condition with little stretch and 12 links.
