Ref. 5500: The little brother of the 1016, the 5500 Explorer is somewhat of an anomaly. Most 5500s were sold as Air-Kings, but some featured Explorer dials and the designation "Super Precision". Super Precision 5500s featured an upgraded 1530 caliber movement as opposed to the standard 1520. This one is an early example featuring a gilt dial and "SWISS" only at 6 o'clock. Recently serviced, this watch is keeping good time and ready to find a new home.
CASE
Case in excellent condition with wear commensurate with age. Case lugs are full, and there is plenty of room between the lug holes and tips.
DIAL
Original gilt dial in excellent condition. No significant marks are visible on the dial. Luminous on the dial has developed a darker patina than the hands. Hands were replaced at some point, but they are tritium and correct for this watch.
BRACELET
Watch comes on a later USA jubilee band with 49 end pieces, dated 1973. It has moderate stretch and has 23 links.
