5510: Perhaps the most desirable and rare of the Rolex big crowns, it is estimated that only 1000 pieces were manufactured of this particular reference. The watch has the desireable "Big Crown" case configuration, with the far more robust 15XX series movement. Often examples of 5510s sans gilt dials are mated with 5512 gilt dials (Which are far more common), however the astute collector will note that the 5512 dials are actually 1mm smaller in diameter than 5510 dials, producing an odd gap along the edge of the dial/case. Examples with original gilt dials are very rare, and this one is no exception.

CASE

Nice case in excellent condition. Thick lugs with beveled edges. Caseback has two minor dings, but the words "ROLEX OYSTER CASE" can still be seen on the edge. Very rare and first time that I have ever seen this on this particular reference.

DIAL

Original gilt dial in very good condition. Dial has some spotting and age, but the overall it is very nice. Gilt color is very nice and rich. Luminous marker at six o’clock is slightly lighter in color, a characteristic that is consistent on early Submariner dials. Hands come with white painted "Big Bubble" seconds hand.

BRACELET

Comes on an original swiss made oyster rivet bracelet with 12 links in excellent condition. Bracelet is original to the watch, and dated 2nd quarter 1958.
